10 little tricks for big success in improving every day happiness

  1. If you have had a stressful day, and you feel agitated and angry, go for a run/jog or dig your garden to dispel anger from your system.
  2. When you feel unhappy and fed up with your life, just before you go to bed think about three good things that happened to you that day.
  3. When you feel lonely, phone a friend you haven’t spoken to for a while and recall the happy times you had together.
  4. When you feel unhappy at work, think, ’What is my greatest strength?’ and try to use it every day.
  5. When somebody pays you a compliment, say simply, ’Thank you’ and compliment others when you notice good things around you.
  6. If you have had a bad day, don’t dwell on it, do something positive and rewarding.
  7. When you feel bored, try to be creative and engaged even in small tasks: dinner can be different, so can washing up dishes.
  8. When you feel depressed, cut your TV viewing by half and plant something in your garden or in a pot.
  9. When you feel empty, do something kind for someone every day.
  10. When you don’t even feel like smiling, smile and you will feel better.
